Dr Grasso presented the paper, entitled "Legalized" corporate social responsibility as a potential tool to safeguard the rule of law and reincorporate equality into the global process of economic integrationl." In the work he argued that the critical separation of the process of economic integration from the fundamental values of liberalism, and specifically equality, is at the root of many of the modern ills of our globalized world. The paper maintained that the corporate social responsibility solutions that have been based so far on the so-called "voluntary approach" have failed, to a large extent, to change such a grim scenario for the better. It then identified the recent process of legalization of corporate social responsibility as a possible solution to safeguard the rule of law and reincorporate equality into the modern economic system.
